Premium Levels
Here are our health and dental insurance premium costs effective January 1, 2012.
Health Insurance
State and Higher Education
Local Education
Local Government
Take note that four things affect your health insurance premium costs:
- Your PPO choice—The premium is lower for the Partnership PPO.
- The size and make up of your family—There are four premium levels:
- Employee
- Employee + spouse
- Employee + child(ren)
- Employee + spouse + child(ren)
Note: If you enroll in dental insurance, you’ll choose from these four premium levels, too.
- Your geographic location—The network providers for both BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee and CIGNA negotiate their costs for services in advance. And, on average, the lower-cost carrier for each region offers the best prices. So, premium costs depend on both your location and carrier:
- East and Middle Tennessee: BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is the lower-cost carrier. CIGNA’s premiums are $10 more per month for employee only coverage, and $20 more per month for all other premium levels.
- West Tennessee: CIGNA is the lower-cost carrier. So, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee’s premiums are $10 more per month for employee only coverage, and $20 more per month for all other premium levels.
- Your employing agency—Depending on whether you’re in the State Plan, the Local Education Plan or the Local Government Plan, you pay a portion or all of the premium for your health insurance.
